The product portfolio from Cisco and Motorola is not
hugely different from that which they are working on today. The core of the network will operate off of Cisco Internet
technology. Motorola will adapt its products to embrace the packet-based transmission standards of the Internet.
From there a wide range of new terminal equipment is possible, as are software/server-based services.

This allows the Internet and all of the content to more easily extend over wireless access. The wireless operator
will not just be an access provider but an ISP peer. Wireless operators can participate in the Internet as ISPs
interconnecting data or voice.
That's great, but will it work on my desktop
or laptop unit?
The wireless data standards are being supported by PC vendors for portables. The fact that this approach will drive
consistency across the different standards will make it easier for PC vendors to invest in wireless functionality.
