Death by Chocolate
"Page one is a diet, page two is a chocolate cake. It’s a
no-win situation." Kim Williams was talking about "women’s magazines", but as far as I'm concerned,
that's true of life generally.

And so to celebrate the wonders of that magnificent brown gold, and
coincidentally the 180th anniversary of the opening of John Cadbury's first shop in Birmingham in which he sold
"Cocoa Nibs prepared by himself" and from which grew the current Cadbury Schweppes plc empire, Books at Star Dot Star presents
an unbeatable collection of books on chocolate.

Chocolate - a Celebration of the
World's Most Addictive Food
|
As an amuse-bouche, we present Christine McFadden's wonderful, Chocolate - a Celebration of the World's
Most Addictive Food.
Weighing in at a petit 64 indexed-pages, it contains a bouquet of sumptuous colour photos. McFadden, one of the
most prolific and expert writers on everything chocolate, presents an updated version of her book, formerly titled
The World of Chocolate.
The history of chocolate is described as is its cultivation, processing, taste and presentation, physiology and
psychology.
And the book is, of course, immaculate. |
Having whet the appetite, we now move on to the appetiser.
And that would be Patricia Dunbar's very refreshing , Cadbury's Chocolate Cookbook
Her 128-page (including index and a banquet of luscious colour photos) Cadbury's Chocolate Cookbook.
From the history of chocolate to hundreds of recipes for choco-goodies for the kids such as birthday cakes and
Harriet Hedgehog, all the way to the most sophisticated of fondues and tortes.
This book is immaculate and Dust Jacket is Fine except for very minor edgewear at the top. |

Heavenly Desserts - Simply Out of
This World
|
And you couldn't do better in this category than the Earl B Hadlow Centre for Caring's Heavenly Desserts - Simply Out of This World.
A 220-page, spiral-bound community cookbook. And being such, you just know it's going to be filled with well-guarded
family recipes which have stood the test of time for generation after generation.
It contains a surprisingly large number of dessert recipes, from the ordinary Peach Cobbler to the extraordinary
Grandma's Gooey Butter Cake, from the fruity Tropical Snowdrift to the sinfully chocolatey Chocolate Whacky Cake.
The book is VG+ except for some very slight soiling to covers, light edgewear and damp warping. |
It's been a wonderful evening and we're just about ready to head
home. Only one thing remains, an after-dinner brandy or other relaxing beverage.
Which simply means it's time for Wendy James's and Gill Edden's, Cooking with Chocolate and Coffee.
This 72-page volume will provide you with dozens of recipes for cakes and desserts using the world's favourite
brown golds, chocolate and coffee.
The book is immaculate but the cover is nicked and edgeworn and bumped at the corners. |
